Daily Record Apologized but Broke PCC Code with Graphic Photo of Man Killed in Car Accident

The Daily Record violated the Press Complaints Commission's code of conduct in publishing a graphic photo of a man killed in a car accident, according to a press release from the PCC.  The Daily Record is a daily Scottish newspaper owned by Trinity Mirror, according to Mondo Times.

According to the PCC, the photo "clearly showed the man's injured face" but the newspaper said it "had not realised that the image included the deceased man."

The PCC  noted that the Daily Record "took a number of steps to attempt to remedy the situation" including apologizing and creating "new rules to its picture desk and production staff regarding the use of photographs with graphic content to ensure the error would not happen again." However, the PCC decided that the photo error "was not capable of remedy."

The adjudication from the PCC is published here.
