At a sports journalism workshop focusing on the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Malawi journalists were advised to "observe ethics in sports journalism by focusing much on reporting the performances of the athletes than their personal lives," the Nyasa Times reported.

According to the Nyasa Times, University of Malawi's Andrew Chimpotolo told journalists that if sports journalists report on "personal life" over the sport, athletes will "shun reporters."

Also at the workshop, Malawi Olympic Committee general secretary Helene Mpinganjira called for more women in sports journalism to increase diversity.
