Australian magazine Women Weekly was criticized for doctoring a cover photo of 50-year-old model Deborah Hutton in an opinion column by the Advertiser’s Susie O’Brien.
O’Brien questioned the doctoring because the photo was presented as a “celebration of ‘Hutton’s] body and all its ‘imperfections.'” The magazine issue graced by Hutton’s cover photo was “supposed to be all about – helping ordinary women accept and love their bodies.” O’Brien wrote:
[The photo] was Hutton inviting accolades from Weekly readers for putting her natural, aging naked body on display. Except what we saw is not her natural, ageing body. It’s her natural body minus the signs of aging.”
