Filipino news site The Inquirer reported that professors from the University of Philippines Cebu College are calling for the area’s tabloid newspapers to be reformed.  One professor, Mia Embalzado-Mateo advised that the tabloids “review their content and minimize obscene parts.”

And a second professor, Belinda Espiritu, commented that the tabloids are attempting to fill an “insulting” desire for “sensational news, crime and gossip.”  According to Espiritu, media consumers don’t “need” those types of stories.
