The UK Express admitted it was wrong to use a photograph of a child reaching for a handgun with a story.

However, the correction wasn’t added because the photo was inappropriate, but because it just didn’t fit the March 7 story.

The story focused on children and a different kind of gun — a shotgun. An April 7 correction reads:

“The article reported the results of a Freedom of Information request sent to all police forces in England and Wales which revealed that children as young as eight had been granted shotgun certificates.

“It was therefore misleading to illustrate the article with an image of a child reaching for a handgun.”
