The Sunday Observer reported that UK broadcasting regulator OfCom will be checking  “the veracity” into a BBC Channel 4 documentary, titled “Sri Lanka’s killing fields” since it has received complaints that the documentary is “misleading and misrepresentative.”  The UK regulator reportedly has received more than 100 complaints over the June 14 documentary.

As iMediaEthics has previously reported, the UK government may investigate some of the footage from the documentary as it may have depicted war crimes.

Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) issued a statement that it “vehemently rejects” the video footage. According to the statement, the SLBC called the video disgraceful and a violation of media ethics. SLBC also claimed that Channel 4 altered local news footage to fit “the agenda of pro-LTTE elements.”

“Sri Lanka’s Representatives to the UN have confirmed that  the Channel-4 content is fake and fabricated,” SLBC stated.
