Ami Magazine’s editor Rabbi Yitzchak Frankfurter said it “may have been a poor choice” to run a doctored photo of “White House draped in Nazi flags with Nazi storm troopers marching in front,” the Jewish Week reported.

According to its website, Ami Magazine is “a weekly publication distributed world-wide” and “brings Jewish journalism to the next level: investigative yet respectful and well-written articles on topics that concern the Jewish people.”

The magazine’s editor claimed the photo was a “journalistic statement about the spread of neo-Nazism,” according to the Jewish Week, and said that the magazine “may apologize” in its next issue.

UPDATE: 1/18/2011 8:05 PM EST: We have written to Ami Magazine asking if it will apologize or not – as opposed to “may apologize.” We will update with any response.

UPDATE: 1/23/2011 9:43 AM EST: We wrote to Ami Magazine asking if the magazine will definitively apologize.  (As we wrote, the magazine said it “may apologize.”)  Ami‘s editor-in-chief Rabbi Yitzchak Frankfurter told iMediaEthics by e-mail yes.  He wrote: “We also issued a public apology this week on the widely listened to radio program Talkline with Zev Brenner. I apologized, acknowledged  that it was insensitive, at best, and took full responsibility for the illustration. I’m not sure what more can be said.”  He added “What to me though is more important is internal Jewish anti-Semitism, tolerated in Jewish media, specifically that which is aimed at the Orthodox community.”
