The Daily Mail‘s website unpublished a story and photos about actress Evan Rachel Wood’s ultrasound after Wood complained on Twitter.  According to Wood’s tweets, she wasn’t flaunting the photo around for photographers to see; the photos of her ultrasound were taken by paparrazzi when she was “in the parking lot of my hospital,” she tweeted.

“I have never been more violated by a photographer. Thats the inside of my body and my child. Would u like my soul too? nothing is sacred,” Wood added in a tweet.

Wood called for the Mail to “please remove the photos because they are private medical records, and it’s invasion.”  Check out some of Wood’s tweets below.

Her tweets seemed to work, because when iMediaEthics went to the Mail‘s website Feb. 13, the story was nowhere to be found.  A Google search points to this link for the Feb. 13 story, but the link directs to a “The page you have requested does not exist or is no longer available” notice.

According to iMediaEthics’ Google search, the story began: “The 25-year-old actress was clearly overjoyed as she emerged holding an ultrasound scan of her unborn child in Los Angeles.” See below our search.

iMediaEthics has written to the Daily Mail asking

  • Did Wood or her representatives threaten to sue over the photos?
  • Why did the Mail take the story down?
  • Did Wood file a direct complaint with the Mail?
  • Where did the Mail get these photos?
  • Will the Mail apologize to Wood?

We’ve also emailed Wood’s publicist asking if Wood threatened to file a lawsuit, had any contact with the Mail over this story and if she filed any complaints over the story.  An email has also been sent to the Press Complaints Commission asking if any complaints were made.  We’ll update with any responses.

Earlier this year, iMediaEthics wrote when Wood called out a Yahoo blogpost for reporting in January 2012 that she had a new tattoo when the tattoo was “almost 4 years” old.  At the time, Wood questioned “Doesn’t anyone fact check anymore?”

UPDATE: 2/15/2013: 9:20 AM EST: The PCC’s Catherine Speller told iMediaEthics by email that it hasn’t “received a complaint from Evan Rachel Wood or her representative about this matter.”
