James O’Keefe is soliciting for $30,000 in donations, Talking Points Memo reported.

O’Keefe is the conservative activist who taped and selectively edited his undercover conversation with representatives from ACORN.  The tapes led to ACORN’s April 2010 closure.

His organization, Project Veritas, also secretly taped a conversation with NPR’s fundraising chief Ron Schiller.  The recording, which captured Schiller commenting critically on Tea Party supporters and NPR’s federal funding, led to Schiller’s early resignation  and NPR’s CEO Vivian Schiller’s resignation.

That video’s editing was also questioned.

In the July e-mail calling for donations, Talking Points Memo reported that O’Keefe wrote:

“I can’t reveal all the details yet, but I can tell you that we have evidence of government employees gladly offering public assistance to individuals representing themselves as drug smugglers and members of a terrorist group.”

Talking Points Memo noted that O’Keefe’s Project Veritas “was recently granted non-profit status.”  Last year, Project Veritas brought in about $2,000 in donations according to TPM.
