Media website Mediaite announced June 4 a “tougher” stance on its online commenters.  “You are not entitled to commenting here,” Mediaite reminded.

Its comments section has been filled with “personal attacks, trolling, and unsavory missives.”

Moderating the comments has been “a waste of time that can be alternately disheartening and disgusting,” Mediaite wrote.

So now Mediaite is dumping all comments featuring personal attacks and “racist or otherwise discriminatory rants.”

As a general policy, Mediaite wrote, “Don’t be a jerk.”

Then, if you mess up twice and post the type of comments described above, “you’ll probably be banned.” Moving forward, Mediaite advised readers of a somewhat two strikes you’re out practice. ”
