NBC apologized for editing out  the phrase “one nation under God” from a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance during its coverage of the U.S. Open this past weekend, the Washington Post reported.

The Daily News reported that the move was heavily criticized on Twitter.

NBC Sports’ Dan Hicks apologized on air “shortly after the piece aired,” the Washington Post reported.  Hicks stated:

“Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we’d like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.”
