Zambia’s president, Michael Sata, has called for a retraction of a May 16 Daily Nation story he called defamatory, Zambian Watchdog reported.

The report in question “quotes the opposition leader as saying Sata awarded a K600 million contract to his friend to renovate State House.”

Sata also filed a defamation lawsuit against the Daily Nation for “a story in which it was suggesting that Sata was shielding crooks,” according to Zambian Watchdog.

Global Voices noted that Sata also is suing “an opposition leader…a radio station and an academic for alleged defamation.”
