The Online Journalist Association is creating “code of ethics for online journalists” this year, the Jakarta Post reported. The association is a group of “journalists from mainstream online media outlets.”
The Jakarta Post noted that an Alliance of Independent Journalists‘ survey reported that “online media accounted for the largest share of news that violated journalistic principles, such as verification and accuracy.”
We wrote in February when Indonesia’s press council published a set of “cyber media guidelines.”
The Indonesian Press Council’s Zulfiani Lubis told iMediaEthics that the group and ethics code isn’t related to the press council and “anybody can set-up this kind of organization.” She explained the council’s code: “The online media guide for news publication published by Press Council is a kind of code of conduct, ‘derivative’ from Indonesia Journalist Code of Ethics,” which was “agreed by 28 organizations in 2006.”
