The Australian Press Council ruled that parts of February 9, 2011 story in The Weekly Times were inaccurate, according to a Dec. 22 adjudication. The article was titled “Enemy Turned Friend” and doesn’t appear to be online, based on our search.
According to the council’s report, Australian Wool Innovation Ltd. filed a complaint with the council over the article, which it claimed was “inaccurate and misleading.”
The council didn’t agree with all of AWI’s complaints concerning accuracy, but did find that the newspaper’s article contained “two admitted inaccuracies” that the newspaper still hasn’t corrected.
The error: The newspaper said AWI’s “governance was ‘commissioned’ by two members of the Board (rather than the Board itself),” and there was a “sudden re-arrangement of AWI committees.” However, the governance was “initiated” and not ‘commissioned” and “only one committee had been re-arranged.”
The press council noted that the Weekly Times had already corrected one error concerning the committee.
