Four journalists from the Trinity Mirror newspaper company were arrested in the UK last week and accused of phone hacking.
“The arrests are the first involving allegations of phone-hacking at Trinity Mirror,” according to Press Gazette.
The four arrested have held top positions at the Mirror or its sister paper The People. Trinity Mirror issued statement to “confirm” that two of those arrested are editor James Scott and deputy Nick Buckley, but didn’t name the other two, who were “former employees.” But, the media has identified them as the former editor of The People Mark Thomas and former Sunday Mirror “chief” Tina Weaver. Scott is “the first serving newspaper editor arrested” in the phone hacking scandal, according to the Guardian.
Trinity Mirror noted that the phone hacking claims leading to the arrests are almost a decade old. The statement reads:
“The police are investigating allegations of phone hacking on the Sunday Mirror in the period 2003 and 2004.”
