Did a Royal Error Make Daniel Day-Lewis Second Rate? Daily Telegraph Scrubs Mistake

Whoops!

The UK Daily Telegraph wrongly reported that actor Daniel Day-Lewis is receiving an Order of the British Empire. In fact, Day-Lewis has done better than this and is going to be knighted by the queen.

A knighthood is “one of the highest honours an individual in the United Kingdom can achieve,” the British monarchy’s website says.

The Order of the British Empire is “more widely awarded” and “recognises distinguished service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the Civil Service and work with charitable and welfare organisations of all kinds.”

The Telegraph made the error in print and online, according to the Guardian’s Roy Greenslade, who published a print version of the error.

The error has been scrubbed. There is no correction on the Telegraph‘s article as of June 16 at 10 PM EST.
