Estonian Newspaper Apologizes for Weight-Loss Nazi Camp Fake Photo Ad

Estonian newspaper Eesti Ekspress apologized for a “fake ad” in its “humor section” that paired “a photo of prisoners at a Nazi concentration camp” with a weight loss slogan, JTA reported.

The newspaper’s deputy editor Sulev Vedler is quoted as defending the fake ad by telling the AFP that it “was published on our jokes page.”

According to JTA, the ad was “to mock a recent ad for an Estonian gas company that used a photo of the front gate of Auschwitz on its website to sell its product.”

The AFP reported that Eesti Express has “the second-highest weekly circulation in Estonia.”
