Guardian’s James Ball on Why he Left WikiLeaks

James Ball, who worked for WikiLeaks for brief time last year, explained why he “had to leave WikiLeaks” in a column for his current employer, the Guardian.

Ball alleged Julian Assange “attempted to access WikiLeaks funds” from the Wau Holland Foundation and ultimately got money from “WikiLeaks’ Icelandic division” and “celebrity backers” to pay for his legal defense.

He noted that while he ultimately “supported the organisation’s principles,” he didn’t back “its methods” or “its internal culture, its lack of accountability, willingness to lie publicly, and crucially its failure to condemn [Israel] Shamir.”
