How Will Kate Middleton Lose Baby Weight? OK! apologizes (sort of) for wondering

Readers and UK politician Jo Swinson complained after UK celebrity and entertainment magazine OK! published a front-page story all about Kate Middleton’s “post-baby weight loss regime.”

The cover of OK!’s “Royal Baby Special” issue featured several headlines about how Middleton, who gave birth to Prince George July 22, will get back into shape. Headlines included: “OK! Talks to Kate’s Trainer” and “Your Exclusive Duchess Diet & Shape-Up Plan”

According to Huffington Post UK, the issue “hit shelves the day after” Middleton gave birth.

Swinson, a Parliament member and the minister for women and equalities, called the report “disgraceful.”

OK! has issued a half-hearted apology, giving a statement saying it didn’t mean to be “critical of her appearance.” An unnamed spokesperson told HuffPost:

“Kate is one of the great beauties of our age and OK! readers love her. Like the rest of the world, we were very moved by her radiance as she and William introduced the Prince of Cambridge to the world.

“We would not dream of being critical of her appearance. If this was misunderstood because of our cover it was not intended.”

HuffPost noted that some tweeters are using the hashtag #DontBuyOK to boycott the magazine.
