Milwaukee’s WTMJ Sued, Accused of ‘Ambush Journalism’

Milwaukee news radio WTMJ is being sued for an interview the news subject claimed was “ambush journalism,” Media Bistro’s TV Spy reported.

WTMJ interviewed a school bus driver, Melissa Dumas, about years-old arrests for “a misdemeanor prostitution charge” and “marijuana possession,” according to Courthouse News Service.

Dumas’s lawsuit against the station and its parent company reads in part:

“Reasonable investigative journalism does not include ambushing an unofficial individual not guilty of any wrongdoing.”

Also, Dumas claims WTMJ’s reporting “unnecessarily sensationalize an otherwise un-newsworthy story.”

Courthouse News Service noted that during the WTMJ clip, Dumas asks the reporter “What are you following me for?”
