NBC’s Today Uses Footage of Wrong Football Player in Michael Vick Segment

NBC’s Today show used footage of National Football League player Jerrod Johnson during its July 17 report on and interview with Michael Vick, Mediaite reported.

Website Guyism and then TV Newser wrote about the error earlier.  Guyism wrongly identified the football player as Vince Young, writing “you know, because all black people look alike,” and later updated to correct that the player shown was Johnson.  TV Newser also updated its post to note Guyism’s correction.

Deadspin questioned how the mistake made it to air, writing:

“It’s unclear how such a mistake could be made, given the quarterback in the clip isn’t wearing Vick’s #7 and is, uh, right-handed. But hey, NBC, we all make mistakes.”

We wrote earlier this month when Fox News apologized for using a photo of Indiana governor Mitch Daniels during a segment on Jerry Sandusky.
