Nepali Editor : Plagiarism "Widespread in the Nepali media"

Nepal journalist Sudheer Sharma explained to Nepal Monitor what his newspaper Kantipur follows in terms of ethical guidelines and said that he finds plagiarism to be “widespread in the Nepali media.”

In the Q & A with Nepal Monitor, Sharma said that Kantipur abides by guidelines established by Nepal’s Press Council, the government, and itself.

He noted that a reporter recently resigned from his newspaper after the reporter plagiarized from the New York Times.

“As an editor working for Kantipur, I have to take the responsibility, but that was done by one particular reporter. In general, we have to trust our reporters. If somebody makes mistakes we are ready to investigate,” Sharma added.

Sharma also told Nepal Monitor that lack of good training for journalists is an issue in Nepal.

We have written to Sharma seeking more information about this plagiarism case and will update with any response.
