New Code of Ethics for Cote D’Ivoire Media?

The U.S. Embassy in Cote D’Ivoire’s public affairs office reported in a “press review” that a group of “media regulatory bodies, media professionals and experts are working on a code of ethics for Ivorian journalists.”

A Feb 16 editorial in Cote D’Ivoire media outlet the Nouveau Courrier questioned the new ethics code, which noted that the code is being “implemented by the Monitoring Committee.”

The Nouveau Courrier wrote that the code will “extend the chain of responsibilities to the sources of information” if fake or “confidential” news is published.  As the Nouveau Courrier explained:

“More simply, it would now obliged to journalist to reveal his source if it turns out that it gave him the wrong information in order to manipulate it.”
