New Internet Ethics Code for Indonesian Journalists?

Indonesia’s press council finished new online ethics policy, the Jakarta Globe reported.

According to the Jakarta Globe, the council’s guidelines address publishing unverified information, identifying if online material was sponsored or advertising, and online commenting for example. The council started work on the guidelines “in mid-2010 in response to increasing complaints from the public about online news reports that were either inaccurate or unverified, as well as the posting of user comments that were deemed insulting or obscene.”

The guidelines will be published “early next year, pending approval from the cybermedia community in the country,” according to the Jakarta Globe.
