Predictions for Journalism in 25 Years?

City University professor Paul Bradshaw published his list of predictions of what journalism will be like in 25 years with a disclaimer that “this is, of course, not meant to be taken seriously” and noting that “We have a tendency to cast the future as an exaggerated present. We give too much power to technology, and not enough to people.”

One noteworthy prediction included the idea that “journalism will be more like a musician’s career than a job-for-life” in which news outlets find their future employees through their social media postings.

“So here’s a fantastical picture of a newspaper’s recruitment team in 25 years’ time: a veritable A&R department, scouring social media to see if they can pluck the next rising star before their competitors do.”
