Yeah, but where in heck did they find that huge bunny?

I still can’t figure out who’s the fattest hog! The real story here is that someone is one strip of bacon closer to a heart attack! LOL. What a fat and lazy family will do! God Bless you.

Our witty friend Amalya wrote: “this is in response to Karins comment, lost of those right wingers haven’t herd about science, as 3 of the republican party nominee’s for president stated they did not believe in evaluation at the republican debate two nights ago , your cant blame those one for believing this i real,” Oh boy it is a shame that the Republican party nominees don’t believe in ‘evaluation’ as you stated. That somewhat puzzles me…I know I ‘evaluate’ many things throughout the day. For some reason I am thinking you mean EVOLUTION. Yep, I bet that’s it. There is a big difference between the two, maybe you should read up on it sometime. Oh and by the way–I am a right winger who knows all about science but doesn’t believe in evaluation (oops I mean EVOLUTION) either. But hey, I can grasp the English language and form sentences. This is what is so frightening: people like you actually VOTING when you don’t even know what you are talking about.

I still can’t figure out which one’s the fattest hog! The real story here is that someone needs a diet of alot less bacon!

The untruthful dad is the only giant pig that I can see in the picture, bwaha.

This is not about a rather obvious and naive PhotoShop job. This is about American child-rearing values. And this is, above all, about integrity. How would the international media howl now had Prince Charles taken his sons to butcher a tame pig.

I can’t believe all of the idiots on here that are saying the photos are fake. The family set up that website to let their relatives see it. They were NOT seeking fame, but the news caught wind of it and started reporting it. Yes the pig was that big. NO the photos are not fake. I am a photographer and I use the computer to doctor up photos. These photos are genuine. And for you at Stinkyjournalism, your articles stink. As you did NOT do your homework.

Jim, do you work for Fox News?

Posted By: Yay | Jun 10, 2007 at 09:38 AM
Totally agree with you here. They even had a poster for sale for their relatives, a poster of the monsterpig. I wish my relatives would be as kind and honest as this folks are, some of us are not that lucky that there are good christians in our familys. y

Ahahah Kevin… I love it when people such as yourself make arrogant comments which are WRONG. Muscle is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH heavier than fat. Personally I think the kid is a fake – look at him… Could he have chased that thing for 3 hours as claimed? He doesn’t even look like he could go 3 hours without eating.

Heres the lattest news to all you Christians and non Christians, It was a hoax! I’m sorry Mr.Stone used his Christianity to maniplate you, but guess what he did! I’m a Christian as well, People need to realize the church is a spirtual hospital for the hurting and we all hurt, THERE IS NO PERFECT CHRISTIAN, you all need to get over your ‘perfectness’! this attitude is what keeps non-believers away> Get a life! obviously Mr. Stone needs help! they killed a pet named FRED this was so wrong on so many levels, I hope y’all are not deceived again by someone again just because they claim to be Christian. Get a life. If you dont believe me go to ABCNEWS.COM

Posted By: jason | Jun 1, 2007 at 08:21 PM
Deception for profit and notoriety. Last time I checked deception was not a good Christian value. I’m not doubting that a hog was killed by the kid. I just believe that they altered the pictures to make it appear larger than it actually was so they would receive more press and attention. You have to respect a father who teaches his son to lie and deceive people. That’s really pathetic.

Posted By: Quincy | Jun 1, 2007 at 08:12 PM
What I don’t understand is why everyone is lauding this boy as a hero. What he did wasn’t an accomplishment- he was on a PAID game park…there’s no skill required for that. If he had hunted him down and killed him with a knife, maybe I would give him some credit- but using a pistol is a cowardly way to kill another living creature, and it gives humans an outrageously unfair advantage. What people really need to focus on is Number 1 why was this 11 year old boy out shooting (good family values, huh) and Number 2 why did his father allow him to chase down such a huge and obviously dangerous animal (whether the pictures are faked or not.) What a screwed up society we live in.

Posted By: Gary | Jun 1, 2007 at 06:49 PM
These people shot a hand-reared pet so gentle that children could feed it by hand. They shot it badly so it took three hours to die. They used forced perspective in the photos to make it look bigger than it is. Then they lied and lied and lied to claim that wasn’t true. The picture of the boy and his dad make it SO obvious. Not only do they have different ideas of “manliness” to most of us, they obviously have different ideas of what it means to live according to precepts too.

Posted By: Get a Life Lady | Jun 1, 2007 at 06:35 PM
Of course these pictures are fake. I used my secret fake picture decoding ring and could easily tell that this was really a little piglet that was blown up with helium to make it look really big, then they used a trick zoom lens and then took it down to Kinkos and had them enlarge the pig and then shrink the boy behind it, then the trees, the sky, the individual grains of dirt and using scientific formula boy/(pig hair/x2+freakishlytinyarm )x2 =(grainofdirt+dirt3)/x2 = pig/(x1+x2+d) clearly proves the pictures were faked and anyone who doubts otherwise is obviously deserving of immediate execution along the boy, his entire family and the inventor of PhotoShop.

It brings me much sadness reading these responses. We truly are a stupid country and headed for the bottom of the heap. The lack of proper grammar alone is sickening. Sure, it’s just an opinion board, but I think it really exposes who we are in this country. We are indeed becoming the ‘hicks’ of the world. Maybe I will feel better if I hit myself over the head, beat my wife, drive a pickup, live on welfare, and believe in a mythical being that rules us all. It is stories like this one that shows us all how the divided will fall. Cheers to the author for your work on uncovering this hoax.

Posted By: Mike | Jun 1, 2007 at 05:25 PM
There is no doubt that the photo with the boy looking as though he is kneeling alongside the tree is different in perspective from the one in which he is between the hog and the tree. If you measure the length of the snout of the hog and compare it to the width of the boys face for each image then when he is alongside the tree the ratio is 2:1. But in the other image it is almost 1:1. So in the first image the boy is placed further back from the hog than in the second image. The photos have not been doctored, but in one the boy has been posed to deceive the viewer. Mike

I have seen them that big, it is real! congrat to the kid. Too bad it turned out to be a pet.

Posted By: traci | Jun 1, 2007 at 04:47 PM
I still believe in innocent until proven guilty. I’m not saying it’s real and I’m not saying it isn’t real, but you folks who swear it’s a fake…where’s your proof. I will tend to give the boy the benefit of the doubt here, until proven otherwise.

By BRAN STRICKLAND The Anniston Star FRUITHURST, Ala. (AP) — Before he became known as “Monster Pig,” the 1,051-pound hog shot in Delta was known by another name. Fred. Rhonda and Phil Blissitt told The Star on Thursday evening that, on April 29, four days before the hog was killed, Fred was one of many livestock on their farm. Late Thursday evening, their claims were confirmed by Andy Howell, Game Warden for the Alabama Department of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries. “I didn’t want to stir up anything,” Rhonda Blissitt said. “I just wanted the truth to be told. That wasn’t a wild pig.” Added Phil Blissitt: “If it went down in the record book, it would be deceiving, and we’d know that for the rest of our lives.” The monster hog gained worldwide acclaim after he was harvested by 11-year-old Jamison Stone, a Pickensville native, with a .50-caliber pistol on May 3 at the Lost Creek Plantation, LLC, a hunting preserve in Delta. The big boar was hunted inside a large, low-fence enclosure and fired upon 16 times by Stone, who struck the animal nearly a half-dozen times during the three-hour hunt. The Blissitts said they were unaware that the hog generating all the media attention was once theirs. It wasn’t until Howell spoke with Phil Blissitt that the pieces of the puzzle came together. Phil Blissitt recalled Howell asking him about the now-famous hog. “Did you see that pig on TV?” Phil Blissitt recalled Howell asking him. “I said, ‘Yeah, I had one about that size.’ He said, ‘No, that one is yours.’ “That’s when I knew.” Phil Blissitt purchased the pig for his wife as a Christmas gift in December of 2004. From 6 weeks old, they raised the pig as it grew to its enormous size. Not long ago, they decided to sell off all of their pigs. Eddy Borden, owner of Lost Creek Plantation, purchased Fred. Attempts by The Star to reach Borden were unsuccessful. While Rhonda Blissitt was somewhat in the dark about the potential demise of her pet, Phil Blissitt said he was under the understanding that it would breed with other female pigs and then “probably be hunted.” Many other of their former pigs — like their other farm animals — had been raised for the purpose of agricultural harvest. As the Blissitts recounted the events of the last two days, they told stories and made many references to the gentleness of their former “pet.” From his treats of canned sweet potatoes to how their grandchildren would play with him, their stories painted the picture of a gentle giant. They even talked about how their small Chihuahua would get in the pen with him and come out unscathed. “But if they hadn’t fed him in a while,” Rhonda Blissitt said, “he could have gotten irate.” Phil Blissitt said he became irritated when they learned about all the doubters who said photos of Fred were doctored. “That was a big hog,” he said. The information of the pig’s previous owner came out on the same day that officials from the Fish and Wildlife concluded their investigation of the hunt. They concluded that nothing illegal happened under the guidelines of Alabama law. Allan Andress, enforcement chief for the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, said they learned the hog’s origin as the investigation unfolded. “We were able to determine that he came from a domesticated environment,” he said. “So, he was not feral to start with. Therefore, he would not violate our feral swine trapping and relocating rule.” Mike Stone, Jamison’s father, contends that he was unaware of the origin of the pig. Before, during and after the hunt — and until late Thursday night, when contacted by The Star — Mike Stone was under the impression that the hog was feral. “We were told that it was a feral hog,” Mike Stone said, “and we hunted it on the pretense that it was a feral hog.”

I am an avid outdoorsmen. I personally can say I have seen ferrell hogs close to 600lbs before. When they weigh that much they are usually 5-6ft in length. Most all fans of fishing have seen Jimmy Houston on Saturday morning catching fish. He takes that 15in fish shoves it up to the camera and says “That’s a nice 3 pounder.” When I catch a large fish I hold my arms out as far from body as I can get them and get that fish as close to the camera as possible. It makes ’em look huge. This kid and his father were doing the same thing here. I don’t know if the hog weighed 1050lbs all we can do is speculate until we all see either a mount(even those with the right taxidermist can be embelished a bit). Point is, all we have is his word and the word of the people in the pictures. If they are getting some monetary gain from this and it is false then shame on them. Otherwise, I still believe in this country your innocent until proven guilty. Leave the kid alone until proven otherwise. To say the photo’s are fake just isn’t true, embelished might be a more accurate statement.

The only stinky journalism regarding the Big Pig seems to be here on stinkyjournalism.com. The page at http://www.monsterpig.com/talk_about_stinky_journalism.htm totally debunks Stinky Journalism’s article. You owe those folks an apology. Stinky Journalism seems to be very selective about the photographic “evidence” it uses. Look at the picture of Jamison with his hand on the pig’s skull. That is one gigantic hog, and is consistent with the beast’s size as shown in virtually all the other pictures. It makes me wonder how many other Stinky Journalism’s articles are also inaccurate and sensational in nature. If even half of monsterpig.com claims about your article is true, the methods used to gather the information are lacking in integrity and rather odd, to say the least. Why not just be straight up with people? Are you in the business exposing lies or just tabloid journalism cloaked in the mantle of self-righteousness? All of this is IMHO, of course. It should be quite obvious how I came to form these opinons, though.

Posted By: Brett | Jun 1, 2007 at 02:06 PM
I’m not fully buying either of your stories. I believe they may have been deceptive with their pictures, but al also think you have been deceptive in your story as well. There’s three sides to a story, What he said hapened, what she said happened, and what really happened. You both need to grow up and get a life!

I would like to respond to Quinns comments about the young boy using a deadly weapon. What is wrong with a properly instructed young man being equiped to go hunting? Does the fact that he is armed make him some kind of murderer? Just because he has a gun and goes out hunting does not mean he will become some nut case killer. Take you for instance, you are equiped to go out and walk the streets as a prostitute, that doesnt mean that you are one. Cut the kid some slack! AS far as the photos, I have to say that the information around seems to point toward fraud.I, like others who have posted, would have made sure that an animal that large was heavily documented before sending it off to slaughter. That is the most questionable issue in my opinion. Then again, who knows, they could be 100% real. I was not there to see it in person, were you? Brian

Look Bitch stop hating on the kid he killed a big pig good for him. If its fake who really cares! Isnt there more importanat things to look into like say “the war on terror”? The “weapons of mass destruction”? look into that instead of wasting time to find out if a fucking pig is real or fake. But wait maybe you should just close up your laptop and get back to work at the drive thru window!!!!

i don’t normally write in on these things but i feel compelled to in light of this poor boy getting bashed by a bunch of strangers for just having a good day hunting. shame on all of you nay sayers out there. a boy and his father going hunting together is a great thing. who cares how big it was! it’s not affecting our lives at all and this boy is having the time of his life. i personally think the pics are real. and i know it’s already been said but you have to be pretty uneducated about hogs to think a farm raised hog is a good representation of what size a wild hog “should be”. wild hogs live in the wilderness and run constantly on a lean diet. corn fed hogs stay in a small pen and barely get up other than to eat or poop. and one more thing, analyzing these pictures like this is just silly. camera placement is everything! we’ve all had pictures taken of us when our faces look a little bigger than usual, or someone closer to the camera looks larger. in the first picture we get a good view of the hog and jamison, the other picture is going to look different because the angle is completely changed. and i hope jamison never sees the comments left on this site. this poor kid deserves better than to get bashed by a bunch of people who aren’t affected at all by his life or what he does. let him have his glory please. god bless those who stand behind him and all you others i pray you find something else to occupy your time because this is so stupid! put your energy towards something worthwhile please!

The believers are all incredibly stupid. These pictures are as doctored and exaggerated as the Bible stories the father uses as a moral compass. Give me a break. Please turn your brains on and stop being blind believers. Only walk through a psyche ward and you’ll see where blind faith gets you. Quinn is the only person who posted something of value by mentioning the fact that this kid is running around with a gun almost as big as he is. Ridiculous.

I am a hunter an outdoorsman, but if you can’t tell these photos are fake, then your prescription needs adjustment.

Posted By: FredF | Jun 1, 2007 at 11:21 AM
The proof is obvious. He is standing further away from the pig to make it look bigger. More bigger = more hits on their website = more money made from deception. It boils down to this: The pig is real, the kid shot it, whether the pig weighs that much or is that long – cant really tell, they deliberately took those pictures in such a way to make it stand out and get freak-show interest in their web site to sell stuff on their site and promote their friends businesses. They tried to pull a fast one (bad one is more like it) and got caught.

Posted By: frank | Jun 1, 2007 at 10:59 AM
I don’t think the photos are photoshopped, but I think common sense shows that the ‘monster’ photo was staged to make the hog appear much larger than it was. Look at the diameter of the log the hogs head is resting on. In the pic with the boy and his father, the log is about the same diameter as the boys head. In the ‘monster’ photo, the log diameter is almost twice the size of the boys head.

this pig is fake and you gotta be an idiot to belive its real

Posted By: J. Tithonus Pednaud | Jun 1, 2007 at 10:42 AM
The issue here is not the plausibility of such a large creature as immense animals that shame the purported dimensions of this forgery are highly likely and similar sized creatures have been confirmed. The issue here is that dishonest and misleading photos have been used to dupe the public for personal gain and the media did not check facts, or even spend a moment to consider the possibility of a hoax, before running with a story.

Posted By: DAGWOOD | Jun 1, 2007 at 10:09 AM
I HUNT AND TRAP WILD HOGS AND HAVE FOR FOUR YEARS. THE LARGEST HOG IVE EVER SEEN WAS 405 AND HE WAS A BIG SOB! I CAN PROMISE YOU IF I CAUGHT OR KILLED A GIANT I WOULD WORK THE REST OF MY LIFE TO GET HIM TO A CERTIFIED SCALES AND THEN THERE WOULD BE NO QUESTION AS TO HIS WEIGHT!

Posted By: Anonymous | Jun 1, 2007 at 09:46 AM
It is hard to believe after seeing both sets of pictures that the huge pig is real, but both pictures looked photoshopped. that makes both sides hard to believe, so as of right now I’m completely on the fence about this story!

Posted By: Quinn | Jun 1, 2007 at 09:32 AM
Let us face a few facts. Journalism in all forms is considered “vulture culture”. The manner by which this journalist obtained her information is no different than reporters badgering a subject face on, or the news and media stalking peoples homes. Sneaky less obtrusive can sometimes be a blessing. If the father had nothing to hide, then there is no reason to be offended in questions. Digressing from the journalist bashing, no one seems to be addressing how “Proud” everyone is of an 11 year old boy (a child) using and or in ownership of a modified deadly weapon. Good job mom and dad. Junior is rolling around with a weapon that could kill a supposed half ton feral pig, and potentially a human being. I am a mother of 2, aunt of 3 and godmother of 4. I would do anything and everything in my power for any of these children and any children I come across. Encouraging the use of a deadly weapons by a child and boasting about it should see these parents receiving fines and or Jail time. Now addressing the issue of fraudulent images, if these images are so authentic, why not allow the originals to the public and press as that is the reason why the family started showing them anyway. People are naturally skeptic folks. I can claim to see some fabled creature in my yard, but I would need solid evidence to convince the rest of the world. Maybe even have someone run test on the remains of the “pig”. Science can prove facts people. Bypassing fact for a sec, I am an amateur with graphics and images, but those images appear more than chopped and a little sloppy. Apparently this young boy and his family are reaping exactly what they wanted out of this which is there 15 minutes of fame. And if the media plans on fueling their fame, please put the focus where it counts. These parents allowed there child the use and handling of a dangerous and deadly weapon. Are there no laws in place about this in your local government? And if anyone actually cares to have a structured discussion on the issues that should matter, then continue to post. But honestly, bashing someone who’s job it is to disprove fiction from fact is the wrong route.

I noticed the size of Big Norm was never “measured” against anything on the offical Big Norm website. (Just google “big norm pig”). So who ever runs this crappy site should also include “Big Norm” as a hoax. After all you claim fair and honest journalism, right?

Posted By: Basche | Jun 1, 2007 at 09:26 AM
If I had killed such a mythical hog as this family claimed, you better believe the news crew would be there to film it. Any idiot with a computer can doctor up photos and this family didn’t do a very good job. It doesn’t take “Experts” to see it. We raised hogs when I was a kid and let me tell you, if a hog was that big it would weigh a heck of alot more than 1050 pounds. Did Dan Rather check these photos out? Even HE would be able to tell they were fake.

Posted By: Mike | Jun 1, 2007 at 09:19 AM
Kevin: First, when you say “The majority of its body is made up of lean muscle tissue, and therefore must occupy a larger mass to contain the same amount of weight”, this is incorrect on two counts: 1) ‘Mass’ only refers to weight. The term you are looking for when talking about how big something is, is ‘volume’. 2) Lean muscle is more dense than adipose (fatty) tissue, meaning the same mass of tissue takes up less space. So a domesticated (fatty) hog would actually be expected to be larger, volumetrically, than a wild (lean) hog with the same weight.

Posted By: Mississippi Gal | Jun 1, 2007 at 09:19 AM
Which one’s the pig? The one in the white shirt or the one lying on the ground? Both appear to have massive hocks and the potential to produce huge amounts of fatback and bacon.

Posted By: John | Jun 1, 2007 at 09:17 AM
Shame on you Ms Shearer. You illustrate perfectly why I don’t trust reporters. All you lying dishonest folks make up stories everyday in order to sell your piece. But I can’t throw the book at you. Afterall, you’re the typical journalist, very Stinky indeed!

Posted By: Rob | Jun 1, 2007 at 08:48 AM
Actually Kevin- What you stated above is false. Muscle weighs more that fat does, so the hog could potentially be smaller if it was carrying more muscle. the pics are fake!

I personally think you are full of it! You really haven’t offered up any proof.

Posted By: Karin | Jun 1, 2007 at 07:56 AM
What I find the most amusing about this whole hoax is the way that “right-wing” folks have suddenly determined that this story is authentic because of the good ol’boy, southern christian lifestyle of the kid and his dad. They have obviously never heard of science.

Posted By: Tami | Jun 8, 2007 at 06:42 PM
Silly me! I just responded to Amalya’s comments, and then I read Karin’s…I just felt compelled to say a few more things I forgot to point out: I did mention I was a right-winger, but how could I have forgotten to say I also live in the South and am a Christian too????? Oh my. And yes Karin, in case you don’t know Christians can and do have a sense of humor, and believe it or not the majority of us know all about science, we just choose to beleive in creation, just as you most likely choose to believe in the theory of evolution. I will be praying for you dear.

Funny how you champion yourself as one who seeks out “stinky journalism” and exposes it, when your methods are no less “stinky”. It seems to be a little hypocrytical to say you are a supporter of “truth” yet use deception to gain your information. Just so you know, It’s hard for anyone to take the information in your “investigation” seriously when it’s prefaced with fact that you gathered it by “less than honest” means. Any way if you truely want to compare your two photos correctly, make sure to note that the heavier hog is farm raised, or in other words “corn fed”. The majority of his body mass is comprised of fatty tissue. As opposed to the feral hog which was wild. His size was not a result of regular, high protien/calorie feading. The majority of its body is made up of lean muscle tissue, and therefore must occupy a larger mass to contain the same amount of weight. Just in case that was a little too hard to understand, consider this example. 1 lb of styrofoam would have to be many times the size of 1 lb of lead. Same weight, diffrent mass. Anyway, I say this for your benefit, as I assume the majority of people who visited this page were intelligent enough to recognize this at a glance. Feeling silly yet? One last thing. Remember that approaching a story with your final opinion already formed is considered “stinky journalism”.

Note that figure 11 (of the boy by the hog) is –exactly– the same picture as the one with his father, just photo shopped differently. For a picture not seen before (not public on the MonsterPig.com site anymore) that proves the forgeries even further, see http://66.226.75.96/pig/ The second picture shows how the shot with his father (and the one of him alone) is absolutely impossible and, therefore, both of them are photoshopped into the picture. See also http://66.226.75.96/pig/PigGif1.gif, which animates the difference between the two pictures of the son and son/father; marks from the father can clearly be seen left behind. Rob Nelson
