Rebekah Brooks, Andy Coulson Charged in Phone Hacking Investigation

Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson have been charged with “conspiring to intercept the communications of at least 600 people between 2000 and 2006” including Brad Pitt, the Associated Press reported.

According to the Associated Press, the pair “denied any wrongdoing.”  Brooks resigned as News International CEO last year and is a former News of the World and Sun editor.  She has been arrested twice related to phone hacking, once in March related to “suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice,” and once in July 2011  related to “allegations of corruption and phone hacking.”

Coulson is a former News of the World editor who resigned in 2007 when a News of the World reporter and private investigator for the Rupert Murdoch-owned newspaper were convicted of hacking. He resigned in 2011 as the UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s communications director. He was arrested under perjury accusations in May concerning statements about phone hacking.

The Guardian ran a live blog about the charges against Brooks, Coulson and others.
