Righthaven Could File Bankruptcy?

Righthaven, the company that has sued on behalf of the copyrighted materials of the Las Vegas Review-Journal since 2010, revealed this week that it “faces the very real threat of being forced out of business or being forced to seek protection through bankruptcy,” WIRED reported.

As iMediaEthics wrote earlier this month, the Denver Post, whose copyright Righthaven have been suing on behalf of since late 2010, recently announced that it decided against renewing its contract with the company.

The possibility of bankruptcy was disclosed in a Righthaven attorney’s letter to a judge calling for a “stay” on its order that Righthaven “pay $34,000 in legal fees to an online commenter it wrongly sued for infringement,” according to WIRED.
