Judge Roy Moore, a U.S. Senate candidate from Alabama, is suing the Washington Examiner over its reporting on him.
In a Jan. 28 statement on his website, Moore said, ““Like the people of Alabama, I am sick and tired of ‘fake news’ by media organizations which pretend to print the truth but in reality, are politically and philosophically motivated to distort the true facts for their own ends. Unlike some who choose to suffer in silence, I have decided to fight back!”
Moore’s lawsuit, filed Jan. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, sues the Examiner, various staff for the Examiner, and related organizations to the Examiner. He complained about a 2019 opinion article by Tiana Lowe, “If Alabamans [sic] vote for Roy Moore, they deserve Doug Jones,” which he said was “libelous and lack a factual basis” for alleging he “sexually preyed” on young girls.
He also complained over another opinion article by Lowe, “Let’s examine all the reasons Roy Moore is terrible human being”; a June 2019 news article by Jerry Dunleavy headlined, “Roy Moore says he will run for Senate again in 2020”; a July 2019 news article by Dunleavy, “Watchdog files complaint over possible forged signatures on documents from Roy Moore charity”; Nov. 2019 opinion article by Brad Polumbo, “Sorry not sorry, Roy Moore, the GOP is done with you.”
The lawsuit says that Moore called for a retraction.
