RTE Pays Reporter for Resigning after Father Kevin Reynolds Libel

Irish public broadcaster RTE paid its former reporter Aoife Kavanagh “in the region of €25,000” for resigning after segment she reported cost the Irish public broadcaster a hefty libel payout, lengthy apologies and retractions, a few investigations, and much public criticism, the Evening Herald reported.

Kavanagh reported last year the high-profile libelous wrong claims that Catholic priest Father Kevin Reynolds raped and impregnated minor.  RTE already paid Reynolds an estimated €1 million-plus, as we wrote. And, after an investigation, Ireland’s Broadcasting Authority fined RTE €200,000 in May.  Kavanagh defended her reporting from the Broadcasting Authority’s investigation’s findings that RTE failed in fact-checking, sourcing, and fairness in reporting the claims against Father Reynolds, as we wrote.

According to the Evening Herald, RTE confirmed her “severance” package.
