School District to Cut Journalism Classes?

Susan Moeller wrote on the Huffington Post about high school journalism classes being cut. She noted that the board for Illinois’ Rockford Public Schools — “the third-largest school district in Illinois” — will vote Dec. 14 on whether to cut journalism courses.

As iMediaEthics reported, Kansas’s education department already has cut “vocational funding dollars and federal grants used to support many high school journalism programs across the state.”

The Kansas education dept. further labeled journalism “a dying industry.”

Moeller is the director of the International Center for Media and the Public Agenda.
