UK magazine the Spectator may be investigated for contempt of court, the Guardian reported.
Justice Treacy called on the attorney general, Dominic Grieve, to look into a Spectator article after he told the jury for a murder trial they aren’t to read the magazine, according to the Guardian. The trial charges Gary Dobson and David Norris in Stephen Lawrence’s 1993 murder.
According to the BBC, the Spectator’s deputy editor Mary Wakefield apologized for the article.
iMediaEthics wrote this summer when two UK newspapers – the Daily Mirror and the Sun – were fined with contempt of court because of their articles on the murder of Christmas 2010 Joanna Yeates. The two newspapers, as well as six other newspapers, were ordered to pay Yeates’ landlord libel damages after their articles “vilified” Jefferies, who was questioned in her death, but later cleared.
