Stowe Boyd on Bloomberg’s new social media policy: Is it ‘Almost Offensive’?

According to Stowe Boyd’s early May blogpost, Bloomberg’s new social media policy  “is almost offensive.” Boyd noted that Bloomberg’s social media policy bars reporters and editors from sharing their “opinions related in any way to their professional assignment or beat” on social media sites.

Boyd argued : “Making inferences or conclusions from facts is not gossip or opinion: it is grounded in logic and the basis of science.”   Boyd describes himself as a “social philosopher and connectivist” as well as a researcher and writer.

He cited NYU professor Jay Rosen’s “the view from nowhere” idea of journalists being considered “impartial” by reporting “between polarized extremes,”
