The Toronto Star averaged close to two corrections a day this year. Star public editor Kathy English told iMediaEthics that in total, the Star ran 695 corrections – 415 print, 280 online only.
According to English’s report on the year’s errors, the Canadian daily newspaper’s corrections are showing “continuing upward trend.” As iMediaEthics wrote previously, last year the Star published 366 corrections in print.
English attributed the growing number of errors to “several factors” including;
- “‘digital-first’ 24/7 publishing,”
- “fewer copy editors”
- readers catching errors
