UK Independent Apologizes, Unpublishes Interview including Personal Info after PCC Complaints

The UK Independent on Sunday published “clarification and apology” to Lord Melvin Bragg for including information about “his private life” in an interview about his “professional work,” according to a report recently published by the UK Press Complaints Commission.

The newspaper also unpublished the article from its website.  According to the PCC’s report, Bragg and the newspaper “agreed” that the interview would be on Bragg’s” professional work — especially The South Bank Show” but “during the interview boundaries were blurred during discussion of his most recent novel, which reflects some personal experiences.”  The Independent added that it doesn’t normally “agree to terms of published material with a subject in advance” but since Bragg thought the report would only cover his “professional work,” it took the story down.
