White House ‘Fact Checks the Fact Checkers’?

The White House’s communications director, Dan Pfeiffer, criticized the Washington Post’s fact checking of President Barack Obama’s statements on the U.S. auto industry.  Specifically under fire were Obama’s statements that the auto industry made a “full recovery — and then some” of money Obama’s administration invested in Chrysler.

The Washington Post’s “The Fact Checker,” blog post by Glenn Kessler called Obama’s June 4 statement about Chrysler paying back all the money “it owes American tax payers,” an example of “phony accounting.”

But, Pfeiffer argued in a blog post that “it is not only factually accurate for President Obama to note the full recovery – and then some – of the funds he decided to commit to Chrysler, but it is an accurate description of the circumstance he faced and the decisions he made with respect to the company. “
