After PCC Complaint, Daily Mail Apologizes, Unpublishes Article Suggesting Teen Died of ‘Substance Abuse’

The UK Daily Mail apologized and unpublished an article about teenager’s death after his mother complained to the UK Press Complaints Commission, according to a recent PCC report.

The Daily Mail also made a “charitable donation” because of the complaint.  The apology reads:

“Following a feature about excessive behaviour of teenage expats in Dubai, the family of Harry Harling, 15, who tragically died there, have asked us to clarify that there is no suggestion that substance abuse was a contributing factor, or that a tweet he made in the hours before he died was in any way connected to his death. No such suggestions were intended and we apologise if any contrary impressions were given.”

The Daily Mail published the apology in its Aug. 21 “clarifications & corrections” column.
