The Sunday Times of Malta is appealing recent court ruling that the newspaper defamed the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN), according to the newspaper’s own report.
As iMediaEthics wrote last month, the newspaper and its reporter were fined €11,500 in the ruling against the Times’ August 2010 article “Patients swindled in scam – Top MUMN official investigated.”
In the Times of Malta’s Oct. 7 report on the appeal, it defended its facts and called the libel ruling “unfounded” and “baseless.” Further, the newspaper reported that tis appeal “contests the court’s decision to pick on frivolous and minor details” to find the article libelous.
