Austria’s Public Broadcaster ORF & Host sue Politician for Libel over ‘Lies become News’ Facebook post

Well, this is different. The Austrian public broadcaster ORF is suing a government official for calling it “a place where lies become news.”

The broadcaster, ORF (Österreichischer Rundfunk), is suing vice-chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache over his Facebook post showing its host Armin Wolf with the claim about “lies become news,” Reuters reported.

ORF called for an apology, and both the broadcaster and Wolf are suing for libel. Strache defended his post as satire, noting he used a caption that read “satire!” to accompany his Facebook post.

The broadcaster’s Director General Alexander Wrabetz called the Faceobok post “libelous and damaging,” saying, “Vice Chancellor Strache accused ORF, by doctoring ORF advertising material, of spreading fake news, lies and propaganda in all its media.”
