CBS fired Hayley Geftman-Gold, a vice president in the legal department with CBS (not CBS News), after her Facebook comments about the Las Vegas shooting.
“If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs [sic] will ever do the right thing,” she tweeted, adding that she wasn’t “even sympathetic” because “country music fans often are Republican gun toters.” A screenshot of her comments was published by conservative news site The Daily Caller.
A CBS spokesperson provided iMediaEthics with the following statement by e-mail:
“This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS. Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families.”
Geftman-Gold’s Facebook and LinkedIn do not appear in search results, indicating they may have been deactivated. We have attempted to contact her through her Twitter account, which is private, for comment.
Gateway Pundit, a conservative news site that was granted White House press credentials earlier this year, identified the wrong man as the Las Vegas shooter, as iMediaEthics previously reported. Stephen Paddock was the gunman, but Gateway Pundit erroneously reported the shooter was Geary Danley and claimed he was a Democrat who was ardently anti-Trump. Earlier this summer, Gateway Pundit named the wrong person as the driver in the Charlottesville attack that killed Heather Heyer and injured more than a dozen others.
