Corrections: Where is Yellowstone? Ryan Newman’s daughters, Holocaust quote

1. Wrong captions:

A common type of error in the news is the misidentification of people in photos or stories. USA Today made that error in a report on stock car racing driver Ryan Newman leaving the hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The correction reads:

Sports: A Feb. 20 photo caption showing Ryan Newman leaving a Daytona Beach, Florida, hospital included a misidentification of one of his daughters. Brooklyn Sage was on his left and Ashlyn Olivia on the right.

2. Quote about remembering the past NOT about the Holocaust.

The Guardian published an editorial about Holocaust Memorial Day and included a quote it said was about the Holocaust. But, the quote predated the Holocaust.

The Guardian‘s Feb. 17 correction:

“• This article was amended on 17 February 2020. An earlier version stated that [George] Santayana had said of the Holocaust: “He who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it.” His actual quote was: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” It featured in his 1905 book ‘The Life of Reason’, and therefore could not have referred to the Holocaust.”

3. USA Today cuts reference to whistleblower:

Its Febuary correction:

News: We have edited this video to remove a portion that included a reference to the alleged whistleblower. The whistleblower, whose identity has not been confirmed, is under federal protections from retaliation for disclosure of information. Laws protect the identities of people who bring forth accusations of wrongdoing by government officials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIU4iRFWwNw

4. Where is Yellowstone?

A Feb. 20 correction from the UK Times:

“Our Travel article on family escapes (Feb 15) included a California motorhome road trip. The tour does not, as we stated, include a stop at Yellowstone’s Old Faithful Geyser, which is in Wyoming.”
