After two newspapers published photo of a teenaged girl “in a bathing costume hugging her father” without the family’s consent, one newspaper, the Telegraph, made a “goodwill payment” and the other, the Maidenhead Advertiser, was called out by the Press Complaints Commission, Journalism.co.uk reported.
The photo accompanied stories reporting on how the girl’s father died trying “to rescue her from drowning.”
According to the PCC’s adjudication, the photo was pulled from Facebook. The Advertiser got the photo from a news agency, according to Journalism.co.uk.
