MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski called Secretary of State Mike Pompeo a “wannabe dictator’s butt-boy” in a Dec. 12 segment of her show, Mediaite reported.

Her comments were part of her response to Pompeo’s Fox & Friends
interview about the U.S. response to the murder of journalist Jamal Khshoggi, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She said:

“I understand that Donald Trump doesn’t care…. But why doesn’t Mike Pompeo care right now? Are the pathetic deflections that we just heard, when he appeared on Fox & Friends — is that a patriot speaking? Or a wannabe dictator’s butt boy? I’m dead serious. I’m asking: Are these the words of a patriot?”

After online criticism, Brzezinski said it was a “SUPER BAD choice of words,” and that she “should have said ‘water boy'” instead of ‘”butt boy.”

An MSNBC spokesperson declined to comment on the record to iMediaEthics.

Talking Points Memo posted a clip of the comments.
