Google Gives $5 Million to Nonprofit Journalism

Google announced Oct. 26 that it is donated $5 million "to encourage innovation in digital journalism." Google already granted $2 million of the money to the Knight Foundation, which will use half the money "to support U.S. grant-making" in journalism innovation and the other half to "augment" the Knight News Challenge.

The Knight Foundation seeks to "advance journalism in the digital age" and recently made headlines for giving  a $1.7 million grant to the Center  for Public Integrity, an investigative journalism nonprofit organization.
