The Associated Press has new social media guidelines that permit breaking news on Twitter, Journalism.co.uk reported.

As Journalism.co.uk explained, staff should first "provide full details to the appropriate newsdesk for use in AP services if the desk isn’t tuned in already," but then may tweet.

But, if the story is exclusive, information should be first sent to "AP news services...before it appears on social networks."

See the new guidelines here.

We wrote in January when the AP last updated its social media guidelines, just a few months after its last revision.
