Editors Weblog questioned if bloggers should have a code of ethics like traditional journalists. According to Editors Weblog, Cyber Journalist recently created an ethics code for bloggers.

The code of ethics (see here) advises bloggers should be “honest and fair,” not plagiarize, “identify and link to sources,” publish only accurate information, and not misrepresent photos or any story component.

The ethics code also recommended bloggers label if writing is “advocacy, commentary and factual information,” or advertising and features a minimize harm section much like that of the Society of Professional Journalists’ code of ethics.  Cyber Journalist’s ethics code also called on bloggers to correct errors and “disclose conflicts of interest”
