Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is now suing the Washington Post for libel over two opinion articles.

The Trump campaign lawsuit targeted the June 13, 2019 opinion piece by Greg Sargent, “Trump just invited another Russian attack. Mitch McConnell is making one more likely” and the June 20 opinion column by Paul Waldman “Trump: I can win reelection with just my base.”

Both articles in question are labeled opinion.

iMediaEthics has written to the Post and the Trump campaign. A spokesperson for the Post told iMediaEthics, “It’s disappointing to see the President’s campaign committee resorting to these types of tactics and we will vigorously defend this case.”

The lawsuit, published on the Trump campaign website, alleges Sargent’s claim that Robert Mueller found the campaign “tried to conspire with” a “sweeping and systematic” attack by Russia was libelous. The lawsuit alleges the Waldman opinion column was libelous with the comment “who knows what sort of aid Russia and North Korea will give to the Trump campaign, now that he has invited them to offer their assistance?”

The lawsuit also alleges the Post has a “systematic pattern of bias against the Campaign, designed to maliciously interfere with and damage its reputation and ultimately cause the organization to fail.”

Last week, Trump sued the New York Times over an op-ed headlined, “The Real Trump-Russia Quid Pro Quo,” as iMediaEthics reported at the time.
