UK Prime Minister David Cameron requested media outlets give “footage” of the riots to the police, Journalism.co.uk reported.

Cameron called the request part of the media’s “responsibility.”

Meanwhile, the BBC’s “head of newsgathering,” Fran Unsworth stated the BBC wouldn’t comply with Cameron’s call “without a court order.”  She explained that it’s not the BBC’s job to determine if footage captures illegal acts and the BBC shouldn’t go “down the route of making judgments about the nature of offences,” lest it “compromise our editorial standards.”
