2013 Mirror Award Finalists Named

Finalists for the 2013 Mirror Awards were announced today.  The Mirror Awards are annual awards given by Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.to those “who hold a mirror to their own industry for the public’s benefit.”

According to a press release sent to iMediaEthics, more than 300 entries were submitted to the awards this year.

The finalists chosen for the category for “Best Single Story – Radio, TV, Broadcast, Online” features several media ethics-related reports.  Staff from On the Media earned three of the five slots in the finalists category.  Their reports weighed in on quote approval, inaccurate reporting during breaking news, and fact checking.  All the nominees for that category are:

American Journalism Review, Columbia Journalism Review, Nieman Journalism Lab and Poynter also are in the finalist pool for other awards.

iMediaEthics will update this story with a link to the Mirror Award’s announcement on all the finalists in all categories when it is available.

Last year, iMediaEthics won the Mirror Award for Best Single Article, Digital Media for its December 2011 story on photojournalism ethics in the reporting on Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.
