CNN said it was “a mistake” to show “a map of India’s Punjab province” in a report on South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, whose parents are Punjabi, Politico reported.

“But it is unclear whether CNN accidentally showed the graphic because of her family’s religion or because of the shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin on Sunday,” Politico added.

We asked CNN for clarification.  CNN’s Bridet Leininger told iMediaEthics that “It was a mistake. It was a map for another story.”

We wrote in June when the Sikh Religious Society of South Carolina, which Haley’s father runs, filed a libel lawsuit against South Carolina blog Palmetto Public Record over a blog post claiming Haley was going to be indicted on “charges of tax fraud.”
